Metro Monday

I am still alive I promise! End of school has kept me busy. Here is another Metro Monday! (Aren't many of those left...sadness!) I'll have to do something else...
This post is mostly of random pictures that I sneak-ly took!
SO these two guys sat next to each other and I swear they are twins...except the guy on the right is Mexican...

Serious bike.

So this is very common on the metro. People are always bringing there cans on board. Show offs...
Her bag was made of snack wrappers...stylin.
Indiana Jones was on the lightrail. Sadly, not the real one. I doubt Mr. Ford uses public transportation.
The metro is full of characters. I might write a book...Public Transportation: Sitting Behind the Scenes and a Big Smelly Guy! I'll try to have stories for next week!

Criminal Metro

There are criminals on the metro. People who drink from cups without a lid. People who eat and play loud music. They disregard the signs. People who don't get up for people in wheelchairs or old people. And then there are the worst: the people who think that they can just ride the metro for free, but they can't. They get on without paying for the ride. The security guards have a trick to catching those people. They get on just when the doors are about to close so you can't escape and then they try to check everybody before the next stop. It's a hit or miss. You might be lucky and get a free ride or you might get trapped by a security guard. They have whistles and badges and everything, so beware. And play fair, pay your fare! :)
Here is some metro fashion. This guy got on and the first thing that came to my mind was "Hey, more power to you!"

Metro mementos

I am not the only one who sees interesting things on the light rail...
See what some of my friends captured.
Never travel alone!

Suspenders!
Talk about matching your bag to your outfit!
Apparently this kid was licking the window...yucky.
I love it when my friends share there adventures. I heard there was a guy wearing chain mail made out of soda pop tops. I've seen Dracula three times this week. The light rail is an experience that everyone should experience. Go on. Make it an interesting day and ride public transportation...then you will see what the public is really like!!! :)

Metro Men

The Urban Dictionary's definition:
A heterosexual man whose secure in his sexuality, and his sensitivity, intuition and penchant for grooming, style and fashion doesn't make him feel any less masculine or any less heterosexual. A metro man is the image of a modern man.

My definition:
Men who are secure enough to ride the metro in modern day!
Happy Civil Rights Day!

The Kind Metro

I had a test this morning and I was studying my notes on the light rail. It's a great extra hour of study. This old man who looked like a cowboy sat next to me and like 15 minutes later he was getting off, but before he did, he said, "Don't worry. You'll be fine!" That made me feel a whole lot better about my test. And guess what?! I did great! It was so nice what he said! There are a lot of nice people on the metro. Young men and women give up their seats for older people or those who look like they need to sit down. Just a lot of politeness and common courtesy. It makes me happy.

Here are the pretty sunrise pictures that I promised. Taken at 7 am over Tempe Town Lake!

Sunrise on the Metro

I got on the metro when it was still dark outside. Way too early! It's always cool, though, to ride over Tempe Town lake just as the sun is about to rise. I didn't catch a good picture of it, but I will try cause it looks pretty darn cool. Everybody on the light rail were falling asleep. I wasn't fallin asleep (I woke up @ 2am to finish a paper) so I was looking through my phone and I found these photos that I have not shared yet. I really do love my metro people!
Pink hair!
Daffy Duck Tattoo!
This guy!
Just another day on the metro. Maybe I'll have a sunrise picture next Monday. It'll warm your heart right up!
TTFN! :)

Metro Monday on Tuesday

Busy day yesterday so Metro Monday was pushed to a Tuesday. Interesting and awkward moments happen on the train everyday, especially during the busy times. When the train gets packed and people are constantly shuffling on and off. I usually get a seat because a lot of people get off when I get on, so I can observe the human behavior a lot better. When the shuffling is happening awkward things happen. Everybody is trying to move out of the way with two goals. Don't get touched and move as little as possible. It makes me giggle to watch them squirm and cringe when someone brushes by them. Oh metro people...they make me smile.
Also, when you are on the train, people will stare at you. Sometimes just normal glances or in creepy ways. It will make you uncomfortable and I learned that the best way to deal with it is to make them more uncomfortable. I stare back. Usually more intensely then they do and then they usually stop looking at me or go to the other end of the train. Works like a charm. Of course, you have to know who it is you are dealing with or they might just start laughing and then talk to you...that could be a problem. Still learning how to deal with that. I'll keep you updated.
Sometimes I talk back or I put my ear phones in before its too late. All depends.
Phone photo. Light-rail warning. Don't cross the tracks...

Metro Madness & Red Hats!

It's Monday! Metro Monday! To review...I ride the metro so Mondays I discuss these adventures!
Let's get started...
Many different kinds of people ride the metro. Students, bums, business people, laborers, religious fanatics, and women in red hats. So many people shuffling in and out of the train! It's unlikely that a story won't come up.
I am usually doing homework or reading on the light rail, but some days I like to just sit and observe. While observing one day, a group of older women came aboard the train. They were all wearing red hats and purple clothes. A few wear Mardi Gras beads, some have huge diamond rings on and all have red functional footwear! Let me introduce you to the Ladies Red Hat Society.
I love seeing all these women riding the light rail. They gab and gab and gab and what they gab about is very entertaining. I have to confess that I eavesdrop on the light rail, but everything I post is appropriate and isn't personal. So no worries.
Back to the Red Hats...they sure do find my generation troublesome. They find us a bit selfish and lazy, yet when they see the ASU students coming on and off the light rail, they boast in the great way that they are leading our generation. Old people make me happy! :) The fashion that these women make just increase my appreciation for the wise! :)

Metro Monday!

So, I am an avid Valley Metro light-rail rider and I always have good stories from my adventures on the train. I decided to dedicate my Mondays to honor those adventures. I'm going to try to keep it up, but if the light-rail is boring that week...no promises. These last few couple days, no specific adventures occurred. I just noticed some common patterns of behavior.
My favorite behavior is what I call the "Awkward Seat Exchange." The light-rail can get a bit busy and people have to sit next to each other (closer than they want to). Sometimes seats open up and people silently move away from the person they are sitting by in order to occupy the free seat. This transition usually is accompanied by awkward glances between the passengers, and slow shifty movements. It's as if the person is trying to do it in q way that doesn't offend the person they were sitting by. "You don't stink! I just have personal space issues." I enjoy watching it! And the person that doesn't move just blows it off with a grateful sigh! The light-rail is enjoyable and better stories are to come. Join me on Mondays for Metro-Madness!
